Learning to fall asleep

Caleb sleeping in Nate's lap
Now that Caleb is 10 months old we have decided that he needs to fall asleep on his own. Who knew that this is a learned skill! Tonight was Day 2 of Operation: "Go to Sleep"
He still doesn't sleep through the night but we will work on that after he can fall asleep without being rocked. That is actually the downside of this all - we are no longer rocking him to sleep which was really kind of a nice way to spend cuddle time with him. Caleb is the awesomest cuddler, although now that he is exploring he cuddles less and less (sigh).

We're going through a similar phase too. Sam was needing to be rocked (standing and rocking side-to-side) every nap and at bedtime. Now we turn on his music box two or three separate times (I wish it played for a longer time) and hold our hand on his chest for a few moments to reassure him that we are here for him. It's been rough but it's getting better.

Sam is still nursing. A factor we have changed is I am drinking less caffeine. I'm down from two cups a day to one every three days. I can't wait to get up to every other day. I miss my coffee and pop! Our theory that the caffeine was affecting Sam seems to be correct.

Hope some of this helps! Hang in there.
